Welcome to the rise of the Betweenager. In the not-too-distant future, a discovery has been made - a gene which reveals a person’s predisposition to succeed in a particular field of employment. This gene switches on at age 13 and continues to mature through the teenage years.
In order to get the most benefits from this genetic data, 13-year-olds are encouraged to have an implanted neurological link to their smart devices. This link will reveal the Between Gene’s maturation process and map the most straightforward path between childhood and future employment.
It’s what we’ve always dreamed of, right? An answer to “what’s the right path for me?”. But, strangely, with their future predestined, some teenagers are now left feeling little hope for the years ahead. Some may begin to look for an open window...
