Redlands Camera Club is delighted to present Pierre Duval, who will take us on a series of wildlife and travel adventures across Africa and India. Pierre will discuss how careful planning and preparation can ensure the best possible photo travel experiences, looking at the pros and cons of different types of travel, tapping into local knowledge and being in the right place, at the right time. Pierre will illustrate these principles as we embark upon a series of virtual photo tours through South Africa, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Namibia and India, including the Himalayas. Introducing Pierre Duval
Pierre Duval holds the rare distinction of having made a full-time profession out of photography without owning a 'real' camera. A child of Africa, Pierre was born in Zimbabwe and educated in South Africa. He now lives on the island of Mauritius. His love of the African bush goes back to his childhood, riding on his father's lap during game drives in Hwange Zimbabwe. That experience planted the seed that would grow into a lifelong passion for the African bush, and for the world's wild places more generally.
In 1998 Pierre took the plunge, leaving a senior position in a national IT company to start up a family-owned African tour business, Bushbaby Safaris. Over the next 20 years, Pierre planned and led photo travel safari tours through a total of 18 African countries. He built up an extensive list of clients, including many repeat customers from throughout Africa, Europe, North America and Australia.
In 2023, after a 3-year farming sabbatical necessitated by Covid, Pierre launched 'Guiding the Wild' with the same mission as 'Bushbaby Safaris', but with an international focus. While continuing to service the African market, Pierre now leads wildlife and photo travel adventures to iconic destinations ranging from Antarctica, Ecuador, Galapagos, India and the Himalayas to Mauritius and Madagascar, all under the GTW brand.
