Kanyana Treatment Training

Our 3 day Treatment Training course explores handling of different species, assessment and triage, pain and injury management, wound care and bandaging, treatment of common diseases and parasites, management of pain and injuries, administration of medications and injections, aseptic technique, record management, working with vets, assessing when euthanasia is required and managing each stage of rehabilitation from admission to release.
This course is suitable for Kanyana's Treatment Assistant volunteers and other experienced wildlife rehabilitators. Full or partial attendance is available (except for first-time Treatment Assistants, who must complete the full course).
Pre-requisites for Kanyana volunteers:
- completion of Treatment Assistant competencies.
- minimum 6 months experience as a Treatment Assistant
- approved mentor
- approval from the shift supervisor
- be able to attend all three (3) days of the course
Pre-requisites for volunteers from other centres:
- be confident in handling wildlife in a calm manner
- be able to tube birds
- have a Mentor for ongoing training
- have good mathematical skills
- provide a letter of approval from your centre/group agreeing that you are ready for this course and that you have a mentor
- register for either the full three (3) day or partial attendance.
Please arrive 10 minutes prior to the session start time. Lunch is provided as part of this training.
