Blood Brothers by Willy Russell
Twin brothers. One raised in privilege, one raised in poverty. Bound by fate, torn by circumstance.
From 10 to 14 June, the 2025 VCE Theatre Studies class invites you to step into the haunting world of Willy Russell’s Blood Brothers, a powerful, gritty, and emotionally charged play that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
Transporting you back to 1960s Liverpool, Blood Brothers follows the story of Edward and Mickey, twins separated at birth, raised in vastly different worlds. They are kept apart by a pact made in secret by their mothers until fate intervenes and the truth of their identities comes out with tragic consequences.
From the joys of childhood, the turbulent ruptures of adolescence, to the explosive confrontations of adulthood, Blood Brothers is full of secrets, forbidden love and twists at every corner.
This inventive production is designed and directed by the VCE Theatre Studies cohort and foregrounds the epic theatricality of Willy Russell’s script, probing questions about fate, class, identity and self-determination.
You won’t want to miss this unforgettable experience.
Blood Brothers is a tragedy and contains strong language, simulated gun violence, mild sexual references, and mature themes. It is suitable for audience members aged 13+.
