Description: Richard Lowenstein's short film, Evictions (1979), which won the Erwin Rado Prize – for Best Short Film – at the Melbourne International Film Festival the following year, describes Melbourne during the Great Depression. A reconstruction of the experiences of the militant unemployed groups in Australia of the 1930s. It was based on his mother's book, Weevils in the Flour (1978).
As part of the opening event for the Power to the People exhibition at The Union Theatre, Wonthaggi we are presenting two films: Evictions by Richard Lowenstein and Strikebound by Richard Lowenstein.
Times: 1pm opening. 2pm Evictions. 3pm Strikebound.
