General Information
Dear Parents,
1st Balcombe Heights Joeys, Cubs & Scouts are invited to attend the Greater Western Sydney Canoe Fun Day at Lake Parramatta in March.
Meet at Lake Parramatta at 07.30 for a day of picnicking, fun and games paddling in a clean, calm, flat water environment.
Please do not be late as parking is not plentiful.
Joey Scouts must be accompanied by a parent for the day.
Cub participants should be able to tread water, float and swim a minimum of 25 metres using any stroke whilst wearing a life jacket.
Scout Helpers with a Scout Level 2 Canoe qualification are very welcome to attend.
Activity Plan:
Scouts will learn various Paddling skills such as how to fit their PFD (life jacket) correctly, select the right paddle, what paddle strokes to use and when, practice paddle strokes, how to self rescue, talk about the environment and weather in regard to boating, talk about planning for a trip, navigation, do a deep water rescue, learn how to raft up and swap boats and places in the boat and get in plenty of practice paddling in a safe environment.
Scouts will also learn Aquatics, Swimming and Life Saving skills, such as HELP positions, swimming techniques and recovery operations.

What to Bring:
Participants will need to wear uniform to and from the venue and bring the following:
- $5 for lunch or your own food
- Snacks
- Drink
- Water Bottle
- A change of clothes
- Warm jumper
- Water shoes (e.g. Crocs, Sandles, old joggers, NOT Thongs)
- Swimmers
- Sunscreen
- Broad-brimmed hat
- Yellow Cubs activity book
Participants without water shoes, sunscreen and a hat will not be permitted to participate.
Parents & Siblings:
Parent helpers are always welcome! Please register a ticket for each person attending.

This event is for current and trial Scout members only.
Unfortunately we cannot accommodate parents, carers or siblings at this event.
Feeling Sick?
Please don't come if you're feeling sick.
Our immuno-compromised youth members are at risk of serious illness if they contract 'simple' viruses or infections.
Regardless, it's not nice to spread your germs with other kids or volunteers.
You should stay home and DO NOT attend Scouts if:
- You have an illness (or even mild symptoms) such as fever, cough, sore throat, rash, or runny nose, even if you think you 'feel fine'.
- You have vomited anytime in the last 24hrs for any reason.
Attendees to any event with signs of illness such as fever, coughing, sore throat, runny nose, etc may be sent home immediately.
