Brian Chapman Lecture Recital - Grief, Denial and Rage

About
Lecture Recital - Grief, Denial and Rage: A Personal Odyssey with Beethoven's 'Moonlight' SonataBeethoven’s ‘Moonlight’ Sonata is one of the most well-known solo piano sonatas ever written. Brian Chapman’s research now points out that the music that is loved and admired by so many could very well be historically distorted by a succession of performers, editors and teachers. So many changes were made since Beethoven’s original autographed score, resulting in for one a strong focus on phrasing consistent of a frustrated romantic love, rather than Beethoven’s dumbstruck grief in the face of the tragedy of his growing and irreversible deafness.
Join us for this brief lecture followed by Brian’s interpretation of the Moonlight Sonata. To conclude Niels Bijl will join Brian in their version of another masterpiece: Cesar Franck’s Sonata in A major.
