Early in Term 3, Year 9 students will be selecting the subjects that will start their Senior School journey. No longer will they necessarily do the same subjects as their peers. Aspirations, interests and academic abilities now start to play a major role in the choices that students make and ultimately, in the direction their pathway moves.
In order to make informed choices, we believe that students and parents would benefit from a greater understanding of the following:
- How and why academic results in Year 9 affect the choices that can be made for Year 10.
- How do subject selections in Year 10 affect choices that can be made in Year 11?
- What do students need to do to achieve their VCE and obtain an ATAR?
- What are the different options available for the achievement of a VCE Certificate?
- How do we assess a student’s suitability for studying an accelerated VCE subject?
- How might Vocational Learning play a part in a student’s VCE?
The Senior School Team will present information to parents of Year 9 students covering:
- Understanding how the Victorian Certificate of Education (VCE) works
- What is an ATAR? What is a Study Score?
- Applying to undertake an accelerated VCE subject in Year 10 – How? Why? When?
- What is the Vocational Education & Training Delivered to Secondary Students (VDSS)?
- What is the Vocational Major? What is a School-Based Apprenticeship & Training (SBAT)?
At the end of the presentation, parents will have the opportunity to discuss any questions they may have with members of the Senior School Team.
