Brisbane Ballet’s celebrated double bill, Morbus and Aquila, returns for a new season at Powerhouse Theatre after a triumphant run at Talbot Theatre. This intimate production—three dancers, three live musicians—delivers raw emotion and stunning choreography by Emrys Goldsworthy. Stage Buzz called it a “stunning reminder of how dance can move us beyond language.”Morbus, a visceral exploration of suffering, opens with a haunting Baroque score. Jordan Lennon, Tahlia Goldsworthy, and Rose Maloney move with “astonishing quickness” through stark lighting, their “unsettling and mesmerising” movements evoking isolation. A poignant moment sees “the cello wept and the women pressed fists into their mouths.”
Aquila, composed by Stanlee Harris, is a cosmic love story. Live piano, cello, and violin accompany vibrant lighting and tender duets. Tahlia’s “breathtaking” solo and Rose and Jordan’s “bittersweet” pas de deux shine. Don’t miss this evocative evening of dance on August 2nd!
