About The String Festival
The Austa NSW Mid North Coast String Festival is an event designed to give young and upcoming players the opportunity to perform in friendly, non-competitive and supportive environment. Participants are invited to play one piece either solo or with accompaniment to the best of their ability. Participants will perform one by one as part of a small group of players of a similar age and ability.

Unlike an eisteddfod there are no section winners and no first or second places. All participants will leave with a Certificate of Participation, a trophy and an adjudicators report. Each session is expected to take around 30 minutes with a 40 minute brief rehearsal beforehand. In addition, a bonus 20 - 30 minute workshop with Goetz Richter (Sydney Conservatorium of Music) will be held in between sessions.
(Indicitative times are subject to change, please use as a guide only).
Sessions include a short snack break for students to re-fuel :)

Participants are encouraged to dress in performance appropriate clothing.

Date and Time
Sunday 15th of June, 2025.

There will be three sessions on the day, the first two for students of a Beginner to AMEB Grade 1 level, the third for students of AMEB Grade 2 level and above.

Session 1* (Young Beginners - Primary) Group A: 10:15am - 12:15pm
Session 2* (Beginner to AMEB Grade 1 - Open) Group B: 11:45pm - 2:00pm
Session 3** (AMEB Grade 2 and above): 2:30pm - 4:30pm

*Please note, Natasha Florence on behalf of AUSTA NSW will allocate students to Session 1 or 2 approx one week prior. The sessions times listed above are a guide only. Please be prepared to attend either session when purchasing tickets, to help us ensure a balanced program and the smooth running of the event.

**Session 3 is for developing players right through to advanced grades. At an AMEB Grade 2 or equivalent level the student is expected to be able to play an appropriate piece in full, reasonably well in tune, in time, utilising shifting, bow divisions, articulation and strokes as indicated, with dynamics and vibrato (if commenced). We kindly request any students who are not yet at this standard to choose the Beginner to AMEB Grade 1 category when enrolling, to ensure we can make this third session's workshop appropriate for students who are beyond the very basics. Thanks for your understanding and cooperation!
