Student Seating Workshop

Join us for an introductory program designed to empower Occupational Therapy (OT) students with the knowledge and skills necessary for effective basic seating assessment, trial and prescription.

This session will equip you with essential knowledge like the fundamental goals of seating, the general principles of achieving an optimal seated posture and the key tools to achieving ideal seating positions for a variety of individuals.

From assessment and prescription, to fitting and adjustment, we’ll walk you through some commonly prescribed simple seating solutions, and compare and contrast similar options from economic, functional and clinical perspectives.

Learning Objectives:

Build an understanding of the fundamental goals of seating.
Understand the current best-practice guidelines and assessment tools used in seating prescription.
Learn how to complete basic body measurements for the prescription of a seating system.
Understand key postural and pressure care considerations in relation to seating.

This session welcomes OT students who have completed their physical rehabilitation or assistive technology unit at university. It is suitable for students looking to enhance their knowledge of basic seating domains as part of their OT education.

Clinical Educator and Trainer - Unicare Health

Annette is a well-known clinical educator and respected occupational therapist who speaks at healthcare events across Australia. She has over 35 years of industry experience and has worked extensively as a clinician and consultant in the aged care sector. As Clinical Educator and Trainer for Unicare Health, she facilitates product and clinical training for allied health professionals, enabling them to become more proficient equipment prescribers.

Her passion surrounds pressure injury care, manual handling, mobility and seating, leading to her participation in National and International Conferences and Events to keep abreast of the latest developments in these areas.

Annette has significant clinical expertise in prescribing assistive technology to facilitate safe and effective manual handling, seating and positioning, falls prevention, dementia care, mobility and pressure injury prevention, and has assisted hundreds of other therapists in making better-informed decisions when prescribing equipment.
