NAIDOC Week 2025: Truth Telling - Aunty Edna Watson
Join us to hear the extraordinary story of local Dharug elder, Aunty Edna Watson, and to better understand the experience of growing up Aboriginal in Hornsby. Due to overwhelming community interest, this is a repeat presentation.
Attendees will enjoy a deep listening experience through the presentation of an audio recording of Aunty Edna Watson as she recounts her early experiences growing up Aboriginal in the Hornsby Shire. Her moving and powerful story is one that should be shared. Aunty Edna faced racism and discrimination as a child and it was not until she discovered her Dharug roots and culture as an adult, that she became proud of her ancestry.
Aunty Edna was recently recognised with an Order of Australia (OAM) for her extraordinary service to the Indigenous community of New South Wales.
Presented in collaboration with Hornsby Area Residents for Reconciliation.
