The Collins Street building opened in 1842 and houses a subscription library, two theatres and one of Melbourne’s earliest lifts. Explore the library and hear stories about this enduring cultural icon.

Please note there are two flights of stairs to reach the library. Our historic lift provides access to the library but is not suitable for large walkers or wheelchairs.
