Dr Sharon Vaughn - Perth

Reading Comprehension Masterclass
How to Move Comprehension Practices to the Centre of Literacy Instruction
Confused about the role of decoding, vocabulary, comprehension strategies and background knowledge? We all know that students who have word reading problems also have word meaning and comprehension difficulties, but what does research say about how to improve comprehension outcomes for all learners particularly those with reading difficulties?
Professor Sharon Vaughn has been working on developing, implementing and evaluating effective practices for improving comprehension outcomes for decades and has real world experience for how to implement these practices in classrooms. Dr Vaughn has conducted research and developed support materials for primary and secondary settings and her practical and highly engaging presentation will invite you to understand what is necessary to improve comprehension practices. Dr Vaughn will share her experience working with schools and teachers supporting these practices in classrooms, as well as her knowledge about how to apply grouping methods (collaborative groups, cooperative groups, and small groups) to enhance fluency, vocabulary and comprehension outcomes for all learners.
