About the course
Join us for a tour of Austin Pathology/blood bank services. Designed for clinical staff at Mercy Health for Women, this tour aims to provide participants with an introduction to pathology and blood bank services.
Topics may include
• Orientation of the pathology space, blood bank fridges and products stored onsite
• Arrival of specimens - how are they sorted/ prioritized?
• What is the process with blood bank specimens, checking processes and Zero tolerance policy?
• What delays might occur? In what instances may blood group specimens require additional testing, or be sent off to Lifeblood for additional testing?
• Importance of accurate documentation including clinical information and location on pathology requests
• Wastage of blood products and common reasons
• Activation of Code White – what is the process if emergency blood is requested?
