Japanese Stab Binding Workshop
About
Join us for an exciting new workshop focused on traditional Japanese bound books. Non-members and beginning bookbinders are welcome.Workshop participants will:
- Learn the Japanese 4 hole stabbinding method and produce 2 books; 1 small book 6cm x 11 cm and 1 medium book 12.5cm x 18.5 cm.
- Learn about a range of Japanese bookbinding styles including four-hole binding (yotsume toji), hemp leaf binding (asa-no-ha toji), yamato binding (Yamato toji), accordian and Flutter (sempu-yo) books, and edo style ledger (Daifuku cho).
- Learn how to incorporate additional Japanese bookbinding methods to give added support to the 4 hole binding, such as incorporation of an internal binding and corner supports for the book pages.
- Gain enough experience and confidence to repeat the book making process independently at home; workshop notes and instructions will be provided.
