Eltham Copper Butterfly Action Days

Come and help us protect two of the five nationally endangered Eltham copper butterfly populations in the Wimmera.Over two days, Friday and Saturday 25 & 26 July 2025 we will be:
-Friday = Hand removing weeds from the Kiata Eltham Copper population. Chemicals will kill the delicate larvae which are currently resting underground. Hand weeding will allow Sweet Bursaria which the butterflies rely on to flourish. Opening up the habitat under these plants will allow females access to lay eggs so caterpillars can crawl down the roots to hide underground being tended by their ant guards.
- Saturday help to join up two of Victorias largest Eltham copper butterfly populations at the stunning reserves in the Wimmera at Gerang Gerung. We will plant 2000 Sweet Bursaria across a 4 km roadside that links up these two populations. one day these populations will be connected with your help.
