Deborah Conway is one of Australia’s most respected and much-loved musical artists. With a career spanning over four decades, she has made a lasting contribution to the country’s musical landscape as a singer, songwriter, and performer.
Conway first found national attention in the early 1980s as the lead singer of the innovative pop-rock band Do-Re-Mi. The band quickly built a strong following with their distinctive sound and sharp songwriting. In 1985, they achieved a major breakthrough with the hit single “Man Overboard,” which reached the Australian Top 10 and established Conway as a striking new voice in the local music scene.
After Do-Re-Mi disbanded, Conway embarked on a solo career that would bring her even greater success. Her 1991 debut solo album, String of Pearls, was both a critical and commercial triumph. It featured the hit single “It’s Only the Beginning,” which became one of the defining Australian songs of the decade.
In the decades since, Conway has continued to evolve as an artist, releasing a string of acclaimed albums and performing widely across Australia. Her long-standing creative partnership with guitarist and composer Willy Zygier, whom she met in the early 1990s, has become central to her work. Together, they have co-written and recorded numerous albums that reflect a mature, thoughtful, and deeply personal approach to music-making.
Today, Deborah Conway remains a vital and influential figure in Australian music—admired for her artistry, authenticity, and the enduring quality of her songs.
JOYCE PRESCHER
Joyce Prescher is a quietly commanding voice in the Australian folk and Americana scene. Her songs are slow-burning and poetic – rich with emotion, yet restrained, revealing more with each listen. With a sound that carries a distinctly European elegance, Joyce weaves intimate stories through lilting melodies and layered arrangements.
Her 2022 album Out of My Mind, released through Cheersquad Records & Tapes, earned her places on the ARIA and AIR charts and cemented her as a compelling songwriter. Drawing comparisons to artists like Jessica Pratt and Joan Shelley, Joyce’s music explores themes of love, loss, identity, and belonging, delivered with haunting clarity.
Recent collaborative releases with Lachlan Bryan – reinterpretations of cult European songs like My Heroics and Nothing Really Ends – highlight her skill as both a curator and interpreter, breathing new life into tracks rooted in her youth.
Though her recordings are gentle and deeply introspective, Joyce is a magnetic performer. With her band behind her, the songs grow new wings – dynamic, powerful, and full of unexpected energy. On stage, she offers something truly captivating: music that is as moving as it is watchable.
A two-time AFMA finalist, Joyce continues to shape her own path in Australian music.
