Written in the 13th century, Stabat Mater is a text that reflects on the Virgin Mary’s sorrow as she witnesses her son's crucifixion. Rooted in medieval devotional practices, it emphasizes compassion and shared suffering. Widely used in liturgy, it inspired many musical settings, most famously the Pergolesi.
