This one-night mini lecture is presented as part of the Butoh Weekend Workshop at Dancehouse.
Melbourne-based performance maker and Butoh dancer Yumi Umiumare will facilitate and activate discussion on the question: What is Butoh?
Yumi will introduce the history of Butoh, exploring both its classic and contemporary aspects.
The session will include:
-Screenings of footage featuring various artists and companies
-Short demonstration of a participatory exercise
-Q&A session
This lecture welcomes both experienced practitioners and those new to the form.
