Welcome to The Science of Gymnastics, hosted by Igor Bespalov—FIG 3 Brevet Elite MAG Coach and esteemed FIG presenter.This multi-part series explores the fascinating intersection of physics, anatomy, and technique that makes gymnastics both an art and a science. Through these sessions, we’ll delve into the biomechanical principles underlying various Men’s and Women’s Artistic Gymnastics (MAG & WAG) skills. Each presentation will examine the critical role of biomechanics in skill execution and progression, practical strategies for injury prevention, and technical breakdowns to support safe and effective learning.
Session 2 will focus on handspring, Tsukahara, and Yurchenko vaults on the vault apparatus, exploring the specific biomechanics, technical execution, and training considerations behind these complex skills.
