The Golden Age by Louis Nowra is a powerful and haunting Australian play that explores the collision between two vastly different worlds. Set in 1930s Tasmania, it follows two young men who discover a group of people living in isolation in the wilderness—descendants of escaped convicts who have created their own unique language and culture. When the group is brought back to society, they are met not with curiosity or compassion, but with fear, prejudice, and institutionalisation.
