The Musicians:
John Reeves. John is a jazz accordionist, pianist, composer and teacher. He studied classical piano at The Royal College of Music before embarking on a career in Jazz. Performing on a variety of stages including the Sydney Opera House, Bennett’s Lane and Hamer Hall in Melbourne, John is chomping at the bit to show off the expressive and pyrotechnic possibilities of jazz accordion at the beautiful Majestic Theatre.
Paul Williams. Saxophone & Clarinet. Since turning professional in 1965 Paul has had the privilege of working in clubs and concert venues, backing artists such as Cilla Black, Al Martino, Gene Pitney and in the Nelson Riddle Orchestra backing Linda Ronstadt. An amazing musical career that commenced at age 11. He is the ‘Gentleman of Jazz’ and is regarded as one of the highest-ranking reeds musicians in Australia. He is simply the Crème de la crème.
Chris Schnack. Tuba and Bass Guitar. From New Zealand, Chris brings his distinguished years of experience as principal Tuba in the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra. He is a multi-instrumentalist playing Trombone, Drums, Tuba, Bass Guitar and Piano. Today we have him on a shiny silver-plated brass Single Eb Tuba and Bass Guitar providing the prerequisite richness for the beautiful jazz melodies from the 20ies to 40ies period in Paris.
David Burrows. David is an acclaimed Queensland guitarist and an accomplished luthier, selling his much in demand instruments to guitarists around Australia. He has entertained Noosa and the Sunshine Coast audiences at festivals and concerts for over 30 years. Today he is performing on one of his own beautifully crafted guitars and is featured on several Django Reinhardt classics.
Rod Andrew. Percussion and Vocals. He has been around Jazz and Jazz musicians since the 1960’ies when he danced to the numerous jazz bands performing in Church halls, Life Saving Clubs up and down the coast of Victoria and the Town Hall circuit of Jazz dances throughout Melbourne. He took up percussion seriously during one of the early Australian Jazz Conventions and has not stopped enjoying himself on the drums ever since. Rod manages this band of exceptional musicians.
Special Guests: Paul Hendon. From Toowoomba, Paul leads several bands and through his work travel has had the opportunity to hear and play with many Australian jazz greats, including Tom Baker, Bob Barnard, Janet Seidel, Don Burrows, George Golla and Kevin Hunt. He has performed with the cream of Queensland Jazz musicians and today his elegant collaboration with Paul Williams will delight.
June Garber. June arrived in Australia from Canada in 2022 and immediately came to the notice of Queensland Jazz musicians and audiences. June has performed in major centres in Canada, the United States, Cuba, the Caribbean, Mexico, South Africa and now in Australia. From her Bio, by Raul Da Gama, “Her combination of sensuous luxury, effortless precision, characterful interpretation and warmth of empathy”, characterises June’s exceptional talents.
