Affinity Quartet

About
Affinity Quartet returns from Festival performances in Germany and Finland their ‘TAKE FOUR: Chamber Music for Everyone!’ series explores the string quartet from its wide expansion in the 18th and 19th centuries to the present in the hands of some of today’s most exciting composers. The program juxtaposes single-movement string quartets by Schubert and Justin Williams (AU). Both Schubert and the Sydney-based Williams, also founding violist of the TinAlley String Quartet, explore this compact form with dramatic intensity. Beethoven’s 10th quartet, nicknamed ‘Harp’, was composed in 1809 during French occupation in Austria. In retreat from Vienna to also protect his deteriorating hearing, Beethoven composed one of his most meditative, lyrical and joyous works.Program:
