Presented by the Tasmanian Museum and Art Gallery (TMAG) and Council on the Ageing (COTA) Tasmania
Foiling the Feds:
Tattersall's and the Divergent Scheme
From 1895 until the 1950s George Adam’s Tattersall’s lottery was run out of offices right here in Hobart. Supported by the State Government, but banned at a Federal level, Adams and his company had to find a way around federal legislation to keep their lottery running. This curator led talk will showcase documents from the Tatts Group Special Collection, with a focus on the private mail network Adam’s devised to foil the feds.
