'Stoic Philosophy and Freemasonry'
More than a few Freemasons with a knowledge of stoic philosophy has perceived strong similarities between the philosophies and lessons of Masonry and the philosophy of stoicism. The similarities in general philosophy between the two movement is intriguing, for both emphasise the importance of
emotional control, intellectual pursuit and the cultivation of wisdom. In other words, to use your time wisely, control your passions and educate your mind (EA working tools). Given that Freemasonry incorporated a diverse range of traditions, both religious and philosophical, it is not unreasonable to suggest Stoicism may have influence the development of Freemasonry. Beginning from the premise "No man is free who is not master of himself," Bro James breaks down many of the similarities between Stoicism and Freemasonry.
