Archer is a folk musician. A country blues crooner poet. Singing by the Rivers, singing in the nursing homes, singing for the children. He is an author, has written hundreds of songs and spends most days Planting Trees and feeding delicacies to a giant Cow.
Archer recently featured in the cult classic documentary "I'm Wanita" and is busy recording an album with producer Michael hohnen (Gurrumul) and composer Erkki Veltheim. A unique and captivating voice.
Archer is a modern-day troubadour whose songwriting weaves together heartfelt stories of the land and its people. Often likened to a contemporary Woody Guthrie, his music resonates with an earthy authenticity, capturing the spirit of Australia’s vast landscapes and everyday moments. Archer has toured extensively across Australia and the globe, performing everywhere from bustling cities to remote communities in the USA, Canada, the UK, and New Zealand.
Whether it’s a stripped-back solo set, harmonising with a string quartet, leading a community brass band, or fronting the doom crooner rock outfit Kangaroos with Machine Guns, his performances are as diverse as the stories he tells. His lyrics, inspired by the natural world and the characters he meets along the way, celebrate the beauty of rivers, mountains, deserts, and even a quiet moment at a bus stop.
Archer’s talent has taken him to Australia’s most iconic festivals, including the Tamworth Country Music Festival, Queenscliff Music Festival, Golden Plains, Nannup and the First Nations Festival Barunga, as well as international events like the Montreal Jazz Festival and Ottawa Blues Fest. He’s shared stages with Aussie legends such as Kankawa Nagarra, Paul Kelly, Renée Geyer, Moju, Stefanie Duzel, The Teskey Brothers, and The Black Sorrows, and collaborated with international artists like Martha Spencer, Rosie Flores, Flora Knight, Marlon Williams and Aldous Harding.
Deeply connected to the community, Archer takes pride in performing for local audiences, from country halls to aged care homes, believing that music is a healing force that transcends the commercial. As he says, “Music is in everything, music is healing. Songs come to me from unknown origins; they are not part of a business plan. Songs are a mystical thing beyond buying and selling.”
