● 2:00 pm Write Links networking
● 3.00-5.00 Critiquing
A Deep Dive in Writing Scenes – Scenes are the starting point for a great story because they are stories in a microcosm. If you can write a scene that works, you can write a story that works. In this Session, we’ll cover:
What is a working scene with examples
The key elements of working scenes, and
How to plan your scenes.
Once you understand how scenes work and how to write them, you’ll be amazed by how much faster you’ll write.
Participants will be sent some pre-reading materials before the session.
Melanie Hill is an author, poet, the editor of the Australian Fairy Tale Society’s eZine, project lead for West of the Moon - more Australian Fairy Tales, a member of the Institute of Professional Editors, and co-host of the Story Nerd podcast. When Melanie isn’t writing or editing, she cat-wrangles four children with her husband. Her first middle-grade novel, Jett Cooper, will be published in September, and she’s working on the sequel.
Melanie has a passion for middle-grade and young adult stories, spy novels, and fairy tales, and she is rapidly developing a fondness for master detective novels. She combines her skills from a career as a logistics planner with story theory to write her novels, and help authors identify and solve plot problems.
