On a lonely road on the tiny Irish island of Inishmore, someone has killed the cat of an Irish National Liberation Army enforcer. The enforcer loves his cat, Wee Thomas, more than life itself. When he returns from a stint of torture and chip-shop bombing in Northern Ireland, someone is going to pay.
The play was first produced by the Royal Shakespeare Company in Stratford-upon-Avon in 2001. It has been produced twice on the West End and once on Broadway, where it received five Tony Award nominations, including for Best Play.
In 2014, The Lieutenant of Inishmore was ranked by The Daily Telegraph as one of the 15 greatest plays ever written.
