Melanoma is a serious form of skin cancer that develops in melanocytes, the pigment-producing cells of the skin. While it's less common than other skin cancers, it's more dangerous due to its potential to spread to other parts of the body if not caught early. Melanoma often arises from the skin, but melanocytes can also be found in other areas, so melanoma can develop in other locations as well.
