There are many approaches to answering one research question, and often researchers are confused about methodology and how to select the ‘right’ one. Research might start with a general idea, or issue, to be explored. The challenge, however, is to convert that idea to a research project with well-defined research question/s and a clear process (in other words, make it ‘researchable’) that will also make a valuable contribution to knowledge.
This session will explore different approaches to addressing a research problem, highlighting some key distinctions (and similarities) and provide a very brief overview of research methods. Research Advisers will also discuss some strategies and tips for designing your research and selecting the suitable methodology.
NOTE: This session will provide a very brief overview of research methodologies and approaches and not a comprehensive explanation of all different research methods, or statistics. It is to be viewed as complementary and an extension to the research methods unit content. Check the Training workshops and events calendar for more specific methods related workshops
This workshop forms part of the unit PRO6000 - Research Project 1. All ECU higher degree by research students are welcome to attend even if you are not enrolled in PRO6000.
