While the previous session looked at the general skills of analysing, mapping and synthesising the existing literature, this session concentrates in more technical detail on how to cite, integrate, bounce off and make use of others’ writing within the body of your own text. In practicing this, it becomes clear how central critical thinking is to this process, and how important it is to be clear on your own scholarly ‘I’.
We will look briefly at questions of plagiarism, and at learning to use varying citation systems. Then we will practice the central and somewhat challenging skill of paraphrasing well – balancing your own argument or story amongst the voices and work of other researchers.
This workshop forms part of the unit WRS6000 - Writing and Reading Skills for Researchers. All ECU higher degree by research students are welcome to attend even if you are not enrolled in WRS6000.
This workshop will take place on campus. If you’re unable to attend, please email researcher.development@ecu.edu.au to receive any available workshop resources after the event.
