Is Bigger Better? The Quest for an Extremely Large Telescope

About
Astronomy is in a golden age. Over the past fifty years, increasingly powerful telescopes have revealed black holes, gravitational waves, planets orbiting other stars, and the cosmic microwave background — along with the discovery that our Universe is dominated by mysterious dark matter and dark energy. These findings have transformed our view of the cosmos but also raised deeper questions that current technology cannot fully answer. Now, a new generation of telescopes — with mirrors 30 metres across or more — is under construction and will allow astronomers to explore the next frontier.Join us for a presentation by Professor Richard de Grijs, as he explains why the future of astronomy is poised to reshape how we understand our Universe.
Richard de Grijsis Professor of Astrophysics at Macquarie University and Executive Director of the International Space Science Institute–Beijing, with awards recognising both his scientific and public contributions.
