OEDIPUS AND BEYOND: THOUGHTS ON THE MYTH OF ANALYSIS
About
Join us for a rich exploration of Freud’s connection between psychoanalysis and the ancient Greek myth of Oedipus, as portrayed in Sophocles’ Oedipus the King and Oedipus at Colonus. This presentation will examine Freud’s pivotal reflections in The Interpretation of Dreams and reveal how both plays resonate with the dynamics of contemporary analysis. Our speaker, Dr Sally Kester, brings over four decades of experience as a Jungian analyst in private practice, including 20 years as a training analyst with The Australian and New Zealand Society of Jungian Analysts. She has lectured widely for Jung Societies across Australia. In parallel, she had a distinguished academic and music career, lecturing at UWA, writing as a professional critic, and presenting pre-concert talks for the West Australian Symphony Orchestra for 25 years. Her PhD focused on Wagner’s Ring Cycle, and she has presented extensively to Wagner Societies nationwide.
Afternoon Tea will be served.
