About
The Kunanyi Folk Club is proud to present local legends Montz Matsumoto and Voicestrings at our August concert. As always, three floorspots will open the night too.Born in Japan, Montz began learning bluegrass banjo at 15 and joined legendary folk group 'The Natarshar Seven' in Kyoto in 1987. After traveling North America, China, Pakistan, India, the UK, France and Ireland, he studied Carnatic rhythm theory in Chennai and toured with bluegrass legend Peter Rowan.
Since moving to Australia in 2002, Montz has performed at major festivals including Woodford, National Folk Festival, Port Fairy, and Tamworth. He's won multiple bluegrass prizes, with 'Banjo Moon' nominated for Album of the Year 2007.
Voicestrings features much loved local musicians Ross Sermons, Elisse Kleiner, and Mitchell Partridge.
