Dignified Anger: Stories for a Perilous Now at Witta

About
This is the ancient art of storytelling for the contemporary stage: a comical and moving story/theatre show, with music on 5-string banjo, quena, flute, bodhran, harmonica, bones and guiro. To begin, Jan and Penny cheekily debunk the stories that have brought us to these perilous times – stories such as ‘survival of the fittest’ and that we humans should ‘subjugate nature’ to our will.
Then, taking their cue from the Latin American concept of La Digna Rabia - Dignified Anger - they share stories and songs of people who have resisted those dangerous concepts: stories of women who led Latin American indigenous communities to defy mines and dams on their country; the wisdom of the humble Australian bushman Bill Harney (1895-1962), who returned from WWI with a hatred of war; and the 14th century tale of what women desire most, above all else - and more, as the show moves through tough times to hope.
“OMG this is good stuff. Highly recommended. Go!” (Hamish Sewell Qld)
