Accent: Music and Sound in Australian Cinema Conference 2025

Bringing together academics, cinephiles and filmmakers, the inaugural Accent conference is a two day event dedicated to the reappraisal of key moments, ideas and figures in Australian cinema.Each day of the conference will feature a keynote lecture. On Saturday, cultural historian and author of "Freud in the Antipodes" Joy Damousi (ACU) will explore the sonic landscape of language, music and sound in Peter Weir's "Gallipoli". On Sunday afternoon, "Untitled Goose Game" composer and screen studies academic Dan Golding (Swinburne) will close the conference with a reflection on New Audiences in Classical Performance.
Accent will also host a panel from RTRFM 92.1's "Movie Squad" hosts Tristan Fidler and Simon Miraudo, as well as screenings of local films "Night Walks" by Jacob Brinkworth and "Hauntation" by Jacob Canet-Gibson.
