Dinner with Dr Jeff Kildea BA, LLB, LLM (USyd), MA & PhD (UNSW)
Dr. Jeff Kildea practised Law as a Solicitor and, from 1979, a Barrister (1974- 2013) and was an Acting Commissioner of the Land and Environment Court of NSW (2013-2018).
After receiving his PhD for his thesis on sectarianism in early 20th-century Australia he taught Irish and Australian history at UNSW (2004-2005, 2014), where he is Honorary Professor of Irish Studies, and at USyd’s Centre for Continuing Education.
He has written several books and articles on sectarianism in Australia, including Tearing the Fabric: Sectarianism in Australia 1910-1925 (2002) and ‘Liberty not licence: The law's response to the challenges of ethno-religious sectarianism in nineteenth and early twentieth-century Australia’ (2024). His latest book, Sister Liguori: The Nun who Divided a Nation (2024), describes in detail Partridge v Dwyer, an action for damages by an ex-nun against her Bishop heard in the Supreme Court in 1921.
