Mental Health Basics and Bystander Intervention

This 3 hour workshop combines topics on Mental Health, Responding to Disclosures and Bystander Intervention to equip student leaders with skills to respond to students in distress as well as other challenging situations they may experience as part of their leadership role.The workshop will include important facts, common misconceptions and the prevalence of mental health issues. Participants will also learn effective ways to offer emotional support to students facing mental health challenges, including referral pathways and processes.
Additionally, students will gain skills to recognise harmful behaviours and attitudes, and develop personal strategies to step in as active bystanders when they witness disrespect.
Content note: This training will include discussions around suicide, sexual harm and family violence.
Students receive a certificate upon completion of the session and can add the training session to their resume.
