Rainer Rilke- Transforming the World from Within our Hearts

About
Join us for an afternoon immersed in the poetry of Rainer Rilke. Led by Mark Burrows, an award- winning poet, translator, scholar and interpreter of Rilke’s writingsIn one of his late letters, Rilke writes that ‘in life we cannot awaken often enough the sense of making a beginning within ourselves. There is so little external change needed for that since we actually transform the world from within our hearts.’ These are important words in turbulent times when it is easy to feel overwhelmed by the challenges we face and the changes that threaten to overwhelm us.
Come to explore Rilke’s invitation to become ‘beginners’ again—and again—in our
lives. We’ll listen to poems that call us to live into what he called ‘the Open,’ coming to see our lives as the gift by which we belong to ‘the Whole.’ The retreat will draw on Rilke’s early poems (from Prayers of a Young Poet, eventually published as The Book of Hours) and from his late Sonnets to Orpheus.
