King Edward Memorial Hospital offer this free* 2.5 hour IN-PERSON Labour Strategies Workshop to pregnant people who are birthing under the Women's and Newborns Health Service.

Please note: To save you time and avoid double-booking, please be aware that the same content listed below is covered in our IN-PERSON/ONLINE 'Preparing for Birth and Baby Course'.

Please DO NOT book both classes as they will be duplicate sessions. 

CONTENT

This workshop discusses and demonstrates aspects of labour and birth, taught by experienced and knowledgeable midwives.

Topics include :

• Changes to your body in labour
• How labour progresses, involving time spent at home and then in the hospital
• Coping strategies
• Non-medicinal and medicinal pain relief options
• Making of a birth plan/birth mapping techniques
• Practical demonstrations of positions and techniques to use during labour

The content in this class is a practical in-person equivalent to the content covered in week 1 offered in the ONLINE equivalent 4-week parent education course run by our department. 

ELIGIBILITY

• Birthing under the Women's and Newborn Services (King Edward Memorial Hospital, Family Birth Centre or Osborne Park Hospital)

RECOMMENDED GESTATION TO BOOK

• We recommend booking a class for when you are 28 - 36 weeks

Any later than 36 weeks, you might find the class length is a little uncomfortable.

• We recommend booking this class in advance, once you have reached 20 weeks

LOCATION

This class is held IN-PERSON, between 1:30pm and 4:00pm within our Parent Education Department for pregnant people and their support person. 

Instructions on how to attend our department will be emailed out to you a few days before your scheduled session.

TICKET INSTRUCTIONS

• You only need to book 1 ticket - support people do not need their own ticket.

• When booking, please use the pregnant person's name and Medical Reference Number (see Image Below). This can be found on your handheld pregnancy record.
