King Edward Memorial Hospital offer this free* 2 hour IN-PERSON Labour and Birth Strategies Workshop to pregnant people who are birthing at King Edward Memorial Hospital.

Please note: This workshop includes similar content as SESSION 1 of the 'Preparing for Birth and Parenting' courses. This workshop is practical in nature, involving demonstrations from experienced midwives. 

CONTENT

This workshop discusses and demonstrates aspects of labour and birth, taught by experienced and knowledgeable midwives.

Topics include :

• Changes to your body in pregnancy, labour and birth
• How labour progresses, involving time spent at home and then in the hospital
• Coping strategies
• Non-medicinal and medicinal pain relief options
• Making of a birth plan/birth mapping techniques
• Practical demonstrations of positions and techniques to use during labour
• Discussion regarding some interventions that may be offered during labour

The content in this class is a practical in-person equivalent to the content covered in week 1 and parts of week 2 offered in the ONLINE equivalent 4-week parent education course run by our department. 

ELIGIBILITY

• Birthing at King Edward Memorial Hospital

RECOMMENDED GESTATION TO BOOK

• We recommend booking a class for when you are 28 - 36 weeks

• We recommend booking this class in advance, once you have reached 20 weeks

LOCATION

This class is held IN-PERSON, between 1:30pm and 3:30pm within our Parent Education Department for pregnant people and their support person. 

Instructions on how to attend our department will be emailed out to you a few days before your scheduled session.

TICKET INSTRUCTIONS

• You only need to book 1 ticket - support people do not need their own ticket.

• When booking, please use the pregnant person's name and Medical Reference Number (see Image Below). This can be found on your handheld pregnancy record.
