About
This training should help understand and unpack the challenges of working within this sector and these roles including the vicarious trauma of being exposed to the trauma or suffering of others. As we know, these roles manage high work loads, competing demands, challenging behaviours across families and individuals and limited resourcing.
The workshop should help understand and identify Vicarious Trauma, and the strategies for prevention.
Learning Outcomes
- Understand what is Vicarious Trauma, and the differences between Psychological Trauma, Burnout, Stress and Compassion Fatigue
- Identify how Vicarious Trauma may accumulate in the work they undertake as aged care workers, and explore this from within the group
- Identify signs and symptoms of Vicarious Trauma and how it may present
- Explore evidence based strategies for the prevention of Vicarious Trauma, including reflective practice, education and support, debriefing frameworks, resilience building strategies
- Identify tools and frameworks that help measure your levels of Vicarious Trauma ongoing as a prevention strategy
- Understanding and managing your own wellbeing and building self care strategies

- Other workers such as intake officers, receptionists in the aged care setting
