St Vincent's Private Hospital Toowoomba Parenting Classes
Our midwives conduct regular labour, birth and early parenting classes. These are available to first-time parents and those needing a refresher. We also offer a caesarean birth and early parenting class for those planning a caesarean birth.
Labour, birth and early parenting weekend classes
This class is a full weekend - Saturday 8:15am to 4pm and Sunday 8:30am to 3pm.
Caesarean birth and early parenting classes
This class is a Saturday only from 8:15am to 4pm.
We recommend you book a class approximately 4-6 weeks before your due date, to ensure the information is fresh in your mind.

- 2 day class: What to expect with managing labour and birth (including assisted birth and emergency caesarean birth)
- Induction of labour
- Possible complications and unexpected outcomes
- 1 day class: What to expect with an elective caesarean birth
- Characteristics of the newborn
- What to expect during your stay on the maternity ward
- Routine screening test for newborns
- Breastfeeding
- Safe sleeping guidelines
- Navigating early parenting
- Emotional wellbeing
- Sleep and settling
- Community supports available

Please only book one ticket - this includes your partner/support person's attendance to the class.
If your plan for birth changes to a caesarean, please call Dorothea Devine Maternity Unit reception to change to a caesarean class.
