Dorothy Gale, a young girl living on a Kansas farm, is swept away by a tornado and lands in the magical land of Oz. To find her way home, she must travel to the Emerald City to ask the mysterious Wizard of Oz for help. Along the way, she befriends the Scarecrow, who wants a brain; the Tin Man, who longs for a heart; and the Cowardly Lion, who seeks courage. Together, they face dangers, including the Wicked Witch of the West, who wants Dorothy’s ruby slippers.
When they finally meet the Wizard, he turns out to be an ordinary man using illusions. Still, he helps her friends realize they already possess the qualities they sought. With advice from Glinda the Good Witch, Dorothy learns she can return home by clicking her heels together and repeating, “There’s no place like home.” She wakes up in Kansas, safe and sound, realizing her adventure was both magical and life-changing.
