Join The Piddington Society for a timely CPD session exploring the evolving role of intermediaries in Australian courts.
Dr John Taggart – leading academic and former criminal defence practitioner – has spent more than a decade researching special measures in criminal proceedings and the role of intermediaries as communication specialists for vulnerable court users. He will share his international insights and latest research into the challenges of identifying and supporting those in need of intermediary services.
We will also have a judicial officer join the session who will provide judicial reflections on the introduction of intermediaries under the Evidence Bill 2025 and the current CLMI legislative framework.
The session will include short presentations followed by a Q&A discussion, giving attendees the opportunity to engage directly with experts on the practical and policy considerations of these important reforms.
Attendees are encouraged to submit questions (these can be anonymous).
Attendees will be eligible for up to 1 CPD point.
Your attendance at this, and at all Piddington events, go toward our access to justice projects. These include the Piddington Justice Fund for community legal centres; the Piddington PLT Fund for the CLCs that host Piddington PLT grads to complete their hours required for admission; and, a First Nations legal education fund. We also fund the Christine Wheeler Scholarship and John Chaney Award for new law graduates and law students.
In 2024, our contributions through those and related activities exceeded $150,000.
Note:
Practitioner ID numbers are issued by the Legal Practice Board of Western Australia. Information from the Board is available here. We require these to issue CPD certificates. If you do not provide us with one then we may contact you following the event.
