Ladies in Black is an Australian musical by Tim Finn (music and lyrics) and Carolyn Burns (script), adapted from Madeleine St John’s novel 'Women in Black'.
Set in Sydney during Christmas 1959, it follows Lisa, a shy schoolgirl dreaming of university—if she can just get Dad to agree! She takes a holiday job at the upscale department store Goodes, where her world expands after meeting the stylish and worldly “ladies in black.”
With beautiful costumes and memorable music, this uplifting show captures Australia on the brink of 1960s social change, exploring themes of immigration, ambition, and female empowerment with a fashionable pizazz.
