Join us for an evening of storytelling, history and cultural connection inspired by our current exhibition Heimat in the Hunter.As part of History Week 2025, and aligning with this year’s theme Water Stories, three University of Newcastle researchers will explore the powerful narratives of migration across the seas – from the 19th century to the present day
• Associate Professor Julie McIntyre shares insights into early German-speaking migration to the Hunter.
• Dr Sacha Davis delves into 20th century post-war migration experiences.
• Dr Jaime Hunt explores the forces that have shaped German language use in Newcastle and the Hunter Valley.
Following the talks, enjoy a self-guided tour of the exhibition and sample German-inspired refreshments.
