Beyond the Grades:
Addressing some of the Social-Emotional Roots of Underachievement
Underachievement in students is often misunderstood as a lack of ability or motivation, when in fact it can stem from complex social-emotional factors such as perfectionism, anxiety, imposter syndrome, isolation, and loneliness. These internal struggles can manifest in school avoidance, emotional dysregulation, and a deep sense of disconnection. This presentation explores how these challenges impact learning and wellbeing, and more importantly, outlines practical, evidence-informed strategies for schools and families to support students. By fostering emotionally safe environments and building strong, responsive relationships, we can help students re-engage, thrive, and reach their potential.
This session will follow the TAG AGM
