This lecture will touch on origins of Zeibekikos from antiquity, to Byzantine, till date.The symbolism and journey of this special dance through time. We will look at the evolvement and how it was shaped by history or circumstances. From a traditional form to the rebetika blues, a solo dance till what it has become and what it means for Greeks today.

Refugee experience refers to the refugees of Asia Minor and how they used dance to as a coping mechanism to express themselves and remember their lives prior the Asia Minor catastrophe.
