QSMA is proud to present one of the world's top Dhrupad vocalists Pt Uday Bhawalkar, with accompaniment on pakhawaj by Shri Pratap Awad.Dhrupad is an older style of North Indian classical music than the more well-known Khayal style. Dhrupad is known for being very meditative and calm, while still featuring exhilarating passages of rapid notes.
Uday Bhawalkar is among the foremost Dhrupad vocalists and has been a strong force in its growing recognition, popularity and resurgence , worldwide. He’s a disciple of Ustaad Zia Fariduddin Dagar (vocal) and Ustaad Zia Mohiuddin Dagar ( Rudra-Veena), the towering pillars of the Dhrupad tradition . Uday believes that when immersed in the note and raga, the self dissolves and only the music remains.
Pratap Awad has received his training in the Pakhawaj from Pandit Subhash Maharaj Deshmukh, Pandit Uddhav Aapegaonkar , Pandit Vasantrao Ghorpadkar and Pt Arvind Kumar Azad , Currently he is taking training from Talyogi Pt. Suresh Talwalkar.
